We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2025. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant at Helena Valley PS you will, in collaboration with teaching staff, assist in the delivery of education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs to support students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional and physical skills.
Suitable applicants should have well developed interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with staff members to meet the needs of students. In addition, suitable applicants will ideally possess good written and oral communication skills which will help support teachers when assisting students.
Applicants will ideally possess knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a mainstream setting. Experience in making social stories, delivering a differentiated learning program and collecting data is hihgly desirable. Training or knowledge of Team Teach strategies and dealing with challenging behaviour will be of benefit, as Helena Valley PS is a strong Positive Behaviour Support School (PBS).

- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
