The Role
You will ideally possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Having prior experience of working in a Community Kindergarten setting would be advantageous.
A Community Kindergarten is a kindergarten that operates in a purpose-built building that is not located on a main-school site. They offer an alternative to school-based onsite Kindergartens for children who turn 4 years of age by 30 June in the year they attend.
The management of a Community Kindergarten is shared between the Parent Management Committee and the Kindergarten teacher who work very closely together. The Community Kindergarten’s teacher and programs are under the authority of the Department of Education and the Principal at the local linked school, being Coolbellup Community School, as the line manager. Parent Committees ensure the centre is maintained, well-resourced and able to provide a rich learning program and environment which caters for children’s individual needs. Community Kindergarten Guidelines set out how Community Kindergartens are run and clearly indicate roles and responsibilities of stakeholders.
As a teacher at the kindergarten, you will be able to work collaboratively with the Parent Committee and liaise with stakeholders, including Coolbellup Community School and the City of Cockburn. You will collaborate with Education Assistants and Aboriginal Islander Education Officers who also work at Pineview.
The successful applicant will ideally be an independent and proactive provider of innovative teaching and learning programs that nurture and inspire students. As the teacher in charge, you will be expected to demonstrate a play-based approach and a good understanding of how to establish a positive classroom environment, fostering high care and expectations. You will ideally have a strong understanding of the WA Curriculum, National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework.
