The Role
As an Education Assistant - Special Needs you will ideally possess the knowledge and skills to assist the teacher with the effective implementation, delivery, and assessment of planned education programs for secondary students, with an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, sensory impairments, physical disabilities or severe mental health disorders in Years 7 through to 12.
As KSESC caters for students with a wide range of disabilities, it is desirable for suitable applicants to have experience working with students with diverse learning needs. You will ideally apply knowledge of techniques, skills and relevant principles and practices for students with special educational needs acquired through previous experience, job learning or relevant qualification.
Suitable applicants will work under the teachers’ supervision and guidance, perform tasks that require discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes. You should display the ability of working with individual, small group and whole class programs and proven capacity to participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of outcomes in students’ Documented Plans. You may be required to support students in the workplace, in the community and the classroom, as well as assisting with their general health and wellbeing. Suitable applicants should be able to work with limited supervision as well as autonomously. Skills in the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) would also be desirable.
To be suitable, you would use your strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with your classroom team and assist in creating and maintaining a supportive education environment, to meet the specific needs and outcomes of students. Experience in delivering explicit teaching programs in an Education Support setting is highly favourable.
