The Role

Harrisdale SHS is actively seeking to appoint a dedicated Career Practitioner, a specialised educator committed to supporting students in their career development. This presents an exciting opportunity for teachers with a keen interest in guiding students along their career pathways. As the Career Practitioner, you will take the lead in shaping Harrisdale SHS career development curriculum, focusing on cultivating transferable employability skills that align with industry demands.
We are searching for a teacher who finds joy in working with students, helping them envision and connect with their future career aspirations. The emphasis will be on ensuring that each student benefits from personalised and cohort-based career pathway planning. This requires effective collaboration with school staff, specialists, industry representatives, training providers, government agencies, and community partners to equip Harrisdale SHS students for post-school opportunities in the evolving landscape of work, training, or further study.
Our ideal Career Practitioners are innovators with the ability to work collaboratively across the school. Working closely with the school leadership team, you will integrate career and work exposure activities into both curricular and co-curricular programs. This may involve organizing events such as career and skills expos, trade tasters, and engaging with training and industry professionals. Additionally, teachers in this specialised role should be proficient in interpreting and analysing system and school-based data. A small portion of teaching duties may be associated with this role, depending on your subject area and skill set.
In order to be competitive for this role, a substantial understanding of the diverse landscape of career pathways, coupled with a deep comprehension of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies, and training providers, is highly desirable. Career Practitioners should possess robust communication skills, enabling them to easily liaise and share information with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers, and industry representatives.
As a dedicated Career Practitioner, you will collaborate closely with the principal and members of the administrative team to provide educational leadership both within the school and the broader community. Your role involves developing and promoting the school's vision for academic success, fostering a sense of shared ownership among school staff, volunteers, and community members towards the school's vision and goals.
Utilising effective change strategies, you will guide the school community in embracing and developing opportunities for all students. Your leadership will extend to enhancing workforce effectiveness and serving as a role model for self-development to improve professional performance. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to the development of the school plan through participative decision-making, which includes policy development and the establishment and maintenance of our careers and vocational pathways.
