We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – English as Additional Language (EALD) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Atwell Primary School is excited to announce the opening of a new Intensive English Centre in 2025 which will provide an intensive English language program for Stage 1 EALD students who are new to English and who have recently arrived in Australia or are commencing Year 1 and who speak a language other than English at home. Once students have completed their program in the Intensive English Centre they transition to mainstream schooling at their local school.

The Role
Suitable applicants will support English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) students through mentoring and pastoral care to ensure their participation and achievement in the school environment. Suitable applicants will also support students through interpreting and/or translating according to their specific needs and their parents or caregivers, members of the school community and teachers where there are communication difficulties. The role require you to support students to better utilise the educational program and increase understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity in schools. You will support students with developing linguistic and cultural understandings associated with Standard Australian English.
You will assist the teacher in the delivery of planned education programs, including identifying and representing educational and cultural needs of EALD students by providing advice on program content relating to the student’s first culture. In addition to this you will assist in the design, implementation and recording of individual or group education plans, in consultation with teachers, parents and where appropriate other professionals.
