We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs (EASN) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Cannington Community Education Support Centre (ESC) caters for over 130 secondary aged students from Years 7-12. Independence, Achievement, and Respect are our Centre’s core values. The Role
Suitable applicants will ideally assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and productive learning environment. Our staff work under general supervision and autonomously and are required to contribute advice and expertise, actively collaborating with colleagues to support student and whole school achievement.
Suitable applicants should be organised, committed, and have a broad range of skills and strategies to meet the needs of diverse groups of learners with disability. A visible commitment to enhancing student learning through ongoing reflective practice and engagement in professional learning opportunities is desirable.
As the EASN, you should be highly engaged in the development of student independence through planned and explicit approaches to support their self-management and self-regulation skills. This includes involvement in the development, monitoring and review of student programs and plans. The school follows the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Framework and uses Functional Assessment of Behaviour.
In the role of EASN, you will ideally assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs, including individual and/or small group programs. These programs will also cover learning areas in functional and personal care, social skills, academic and occupational, physio and speech therapy initiatives. It would be preferable to have extensive skills and knowledge in utilising Information and Communications Technology (ICT), including using computer software programs, tablets, and mobile phones to personalise learning for students.
Staff at CCESC recognise that young people learn best when they feel safe and heard. Sound knowledge in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and effectively being a communication partner is desired. Education Assistants should promote PBS strategies that assist students to develop their self- regulation in a variety or education and community settings.
Suitable applicants should be committed to putting students first and assisting teachers to implement instructional skills and strategies that maximise students’ engagement in their learning. They will work in teams to support the learning of students and to develop effective working relationship with students and stakeholders. Our staff proudly provide assistance to students with the upmost care, respect and dignity in all areas of daily living, including but not limited to toileting, mealtime management, hygiene, transfer and positioning care.

Suitable applicants should be competent in the use of ICT. Knowledge or experience of Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication related Handicapped Children (TEACCH), Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN), assistive technology, BoardMaker, visual schedules, low tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Discrete Trial Training, Direct Instruction, escalation profiling, monitoring student progress and the maintenance of student records is highly desirable.

- Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.
