The Role
Education Assistants - Special Needs are responsible for assisting teachers with preparing resources and programs that meet the learning needs of students with disabilities and learning difficulties, and to encourage these students to reach their individual goals. They should provide effective feedback when required on education and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of student’s individual goals.
Applicants may also be required to support students in the workplace and in the community (e.g. Travel Training). Suitable applicants should display skill in the use of Information Technology (IT) to assist teachers and students if required.
In addition, applicants should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with teachesr to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. You will ideally be organised and able to use your initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and well-being of students and maintenance of the learning environment. It is desirable that staff hold or be willing to be trained in First Aid.

- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
