Derby District High School is located in attractive and well-maintained grounds and surroundings. It is a dynamic school with a highly motivated, supportive and collaborative staff of over 100 people. With an enrolment of 600 plus students, it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal Communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park. The collaborative approach, exciting work environment and the students make it a great place to teach. Staff are passionate about improving standards in Education, particularly in Aboriginal Education. There is an active and strong social club to ensure that staff are well supported both in and out of school.
The location and community
Derby District High School is located in Derby which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australian. Derby is 220km east of Broome by road and is 2463km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. Derby is well supported with a range of government infrastructures. Its location near the King Sound and a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities - but not swimming!

The Role
Derby DHS is an exciting place to work. New graduates are supported by a range of experienced teachers and curriculum specialists. Whole school programs and processes are very important to us and make the induction into our school a well-supported process.
The ideal candidate will possess highly effective teaching and classroom management skills. They will ideally be able to develop positive relationships with students across all cohorts by providing differentiated, challenging, caring, and creative digital learning activities.
They will ideally be able to create digital learning environments that offer diverse opportunities and activities, enabling all students to reach their highest potential across a wide range of technology skills. They will ideally support general classroom teachers to better integrate technology into their classrooms to further enhance student digital proficiency.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to build on the highly successful and engaging program that has been established, we encourage our teams to leverage the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education to continue innovating in this learning area. They will have access to a significant resource bank, including drones, Lego robotics, bots, data probes, and digital microscopes. The digital classroom is equipped with dedicated desktops, laptops, and iPads. Additionally, the successful applicant will manage the substantial Digital Technologies budget and resources.

Mobility appointments for permanent, metropolitan and south west teachers
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
