The Southwest Regional Education Office are seeking to establish a pool of Teacher - Home Education Moderators for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to September 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
The Southwest is a spectacular part of Western Australia, with many attractive features and locations. The Region covers the Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Great Southern (Albany) parts of Western Australian. Home Education Moderator positions may become available across the region and staff may be expected to travel away from their home base to complete the required work.
The Southwest Home Education team is friendly and supportive. New moderators are assisted to effectively undertake the role, with mentoring and ongoing collaboration provided. It is highly recommended that applicants have a passion for alternative education pathways and research the context of the home education environment in the Southwest Education Region.
The Role
Home Education Moderators will effectively liaise with home educating families to evaluate their programs and student progress, ensuring that programs being implemented are adequate to the needs and abilities of the students. Home Education Moderators are often required to respectfully provide advice to home educators regarding improvements to their programs and assessment of student progress. Home Education Moderators require a thorough understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum, across all phases of learning, to ensure that a quick and comprehensive evaluation can be completed and reported upon. They should also bring an awareness of appropriate educational programs relevant to the individual learning needs of students in the home education context of the Southwest Education Region.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess high level verbal and interpersonal communications skills; the ability to effectively liaise with parents, other education professionals and outside agencies; and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence and reports.
Ideally, applicants will be experienced educators, value life-long learning, and will work well as part of a dedicated group to enhance the performance of home educating students in the Southwest Education Region.
