The Role
Laboratory Technicians are essential team members within the Science learning area at Hammond Park SC. They collaborate closely with the Head of Instruction – Science and teaching staff to facilitate effective learning outcomes for students across the full range of Science disciplines, which currently include:
- Lower School Science: Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology, Agricultural Sciences and Science as a Human Endeavour
- Senior Secondary Courses: Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology
As a key staff member in a growing College, the Laboratory Technician will ideally remain adaptive to new and evolving course offerings as well as changes to teaching and learning programs. The successful applicant should bring their positive demeanour, attention to detail, organisational skills and experience to prepare and deliver engaging experiments and demonstrates that meet curriculum requirements, in collaboration with teaching staff.
On a day-to-day basis, the Laboratory Technician will set up science laboratories and maintain equipment, materials, teaching aids, chemicals and laboratory stock in accordance with Department guidelines and laboratory storage requirements. This includes the purchasing of chemicals, supplies and consumables. They will work independently, and as part of the Science learning area team, to support teaching and curriculum outcomes. As such, the successful applicant should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be open to feedback and enjoy working with students.
Whilst this position is advertised as a full-time position, the College will consider suitable applicants seeking job-share or part-time positions.
