The Role
The Education Assistant – Special Needs will, under teacher direction, assist with the implementation and delivery of specialised education programs such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physiotherapy. The Education Assistant will also assist with implementing individual student or small group programs/demonstrations and assist teachers in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies. Additionally, when required, the Education Assistant will provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff across the whole school to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. They should be organised and able to use initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and well-being of students and maintenance of the learning environment. It is desirable for applicants to have knowledge of or experience working with students with special needs in a mainstream environment.

Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
