Our Inclusive Education Hub boasts state of the art facilities for students with moderate to severe and profound disabilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, a sensory play space, life skills room and a therapy consult space.
At Aveley Secondary College (SC) our dynamic team of specialist teachers and education support staff work in close partnership to deliver individualised programmes and evidence-based practice that develops each child’s educational, physical, and social skills. The successful applicant will ideally modify curriculum and make adjustments to meet the student’s individual needs. Our staff work in partnership with students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide targeted and relevant programs focusing on functional literacy and numeracy, communication, social skills, protective behaviours, and independent living skills, leading to employability skills including Workplace Learning (WPL) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.
This position ideally needs a flexible and reflective teacher, preferably with specialist knowledge and skills related to students with moderate to severe disability, including Intellectual Disability (ID), multiple physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Trauma. Experience in supporting students with co morbid diagnoses, complex communication needs and challenging behaviours is highly desirable. Applicants with special needs qualifications or a willingness to undertake further postgraduate study in special needs education will be highly regarded. The successful applicant should be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and creating a supportive environment where student success is celebrated.
The successful applicant will ideally be an experienced secondary education support teacher willing to teach across all year levels. It is highly desirable for applicants to have a strong background in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and knowledge/experience of trauma informed practice and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). They should be familiar with a range of curricula and assessment tools, including the Western Australian Curriculum, Abilities Based Learning Education Western Australia (ABLEWA), Special Education Needs Reporting To Parents (SEN RTP), ASDAN, Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communications Handicapped Children (TEACCH) practice and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
The successful applicant will ideally be able to develop, implement and review meaningful and appropriate Individual Education Plans that not only outline functional curriculum objectives, but that support the whole child through targeted social-emotional skills, life skills and Protective Behaviours curriculum. As a Teacher in an Education Support environment, you will be responsible for positively managing a team of Education Assistants, within their classroom.

The College has an emphasis on engaging curriculum that has high levels of integrated technology embedded in lessons, opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and the Arts. The College utilises current research into teaching and learning and school improvement, which has led to the implementation of Explicit Direct Instruction as the College’s signature pedagogy and approach to curriculum planning. Although this is a mandated whole school approach, there is support and professional development for staff to build proficiency in utilising Explicit Direct Instructions for planning and lesson delivery.

Aveley SC has a diverse offering of Academy courses for students that operate as extra curricula options.
The College has state-of-the-art facilities including spacious general classrooms, dedicated Science labs, Cooking and Textiles rooms including a commercial kitchen, Sports Hall, playing courts and oval. There is an impressive Arts complex featuring a performing arts theatre, dance studio, visual arts studios, music rooms, media, and photography facilities. The College also runs a dedicated Education Support Hub with specialist facilities and staff for students with high needs.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
