This is permanent, full-time position commencing Term 4, 2024
Ridge View Secondary College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated Gardener-Handyperson as an integral and valued member of our facilities team. In collaboration with the Manager Corporate Services and Cleaner in Charge, you will be required to undertake gardening and handyman duties that are required within the college. Flexibility in a new college will be highly regarded, as the culture continues to be established with the growth of students and staff.
The successful applicant should have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy working to provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. The Gardener-Handyperson will be responsible for maintaining and presenting our college grounds in a clean, tidy and welcoming condition. We are looking for a team player to work collaboratively with all staff as part of a whole college community. As part of the role, you will be required to carry out minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener/Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
