The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) is seeking to establish a pool of Primary Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies, which may arise during the 2025 school year, at various campuses across the Greater Perth metropolitan area.
The Role
As a Primary Teacher with SSEN: MMH you will be a highly valued member of a team providing quality education to students whose physical or mental health presents difficulties in accessing their usual educational program. The co-teaching environment in any of our programs is diverse and dynamic on any given day, as you support individualised student needs within multi-age groups. Suitable applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as you work with various other staff within and beyond education. Meeting the needs of all students requires staff to work collectively with others, being open to their opinions and perspectives to achieve positive student outcomes.
It is a role that necessitates a breadth and depth of primary curriculum and pedagogical knowledge. This role will suit self-reflective, motivated teachers with outstanding classroom teaching practice and a range of experiences teaching across subject areas as well as differentiating teaching to cater for student diversity. Our staff make use of multi modal learning approaches to achieve student outcomes and to engage students in active student learning. As a culturally responsive and inclusive school one of your key priorities should include providing all students with opportunities to achieve success through education.

About the School
SSEN:MMH is one of seven specialist schools within Statewide Services. The SSEN:MMH administrative centre is based at Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, with metropolitan programs in hospital and community health settings across campuses in the north and south metropolitan education regions. Staff are timetabled to programs across these various campuses including Bentley, Joondalup, Midland, Murdoch, Nedlands and Tuart Hill to ensure we meet the needs of all referred students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and improve educational outcomes of these students.
SSEN:MMH is a school that strives for excellence through building the capacity of staff within a culture of support and by creating a learning environment where students can connect, learn and thrive. Staff at SSEN:MMH are responsive to diverse needs within a holistic framework of family, students' enrolled schools (both government and non-government), other Specialist Schools and Statewide Services teams, community support systems and the health community. Staff at SSEN:MMH are continuously establishing and maintaining the vital link between health service and schools that is necessary for a student’s total care. Our teachers work with interdisciplinary health teams, as well as collaboratively with other teachers and support staff. These teams assist us meet the educational, medical and psychosocial needs of students ensuring continuity of education.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
