Appointment Pool
Mount Hawthorn Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to establish a pool of motivated, passionate and dynamic Education Support Teachers with desire to work in a centre with students with high educational support needs. Appointments from the pool will fill permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.
Mount Hawthorn ESC is an independent Public School that caters for children with special needs between Pre-Primary and Year 6. Our students have varying degrees of intellectual and/or physical disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. With specially trained staff we are able to offer individualised programs that best suit the diverse needs of each of our students within a safe and inclusive environment. We share a campus with Mount Hawthorn Primary School and this allows us to offer a range of opportunities for children to integrate with their mainstream peers.
Suitable applicants will ideally be able to develop, implement and rigorously assess programs relevant to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID) and display a range of effective strategies used in context and understand the evidence behind these strategies. The applicants should have experience using and implementing Positive Behaviour Strategies, and have the ability to collect and analyse data to make positive behavioural changes. Strong experience in Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC), specifically PODD and devices is desired, along with current Team Teach training and Key Word Sign.
Suitable applicants will develop a scaffolded curriculum differentiated for each student and develop and implement non-standard assessment tools and Special Educational Needs reporting. Whole school assessment is completed each semester using both standardised and teacher judgment-based assessments. You will ideally be able to use a range of assessment and reporting methods that show student achievement in relation to learning outcomes, the ability to plan purposeful, relevant and authentic learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs. Due to the high needs of the students, Mount Hawthorn Education Support Centre has small class sizes with a high student staff ratio, which makes explicit teaching possible.
