This is an eight (8) month fixed term, full-time position commencing as soon as possible.
Mullewa District High School (DHS) is seeking a passionate, highly motivated, and innovative Deputy Principal to provide educational leadership across the school with a focus on student engagement.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Mullewa District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
The successful applicant will have a deep belief that every student is capable of achieving success and be able to provide educational leadership to a team that ensures students are engaged and become successful learners. Specifically, you will display excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills with students, parents and staff, and the ability to develop and maintain positive and effective partnerships with external agencies, and members of the community.
Specifically, you will be responsible, working alongside the principal, to lead a strategic process to develop the schools’ Marketing and Communication Plan in line with the school’s strategic direction. Excellent knowledge of developing school websites, managing, and developing a school band and engaging with community to build the reputation of the school is highly desired.
The successful applicant will continually drive improvement by providing proactive leadership that is collaborative, inspiring and supportive. Leading by example, you will model high aspirations and expectations of all staff and students.
Our focus is to create a safe and calm environment and you will need to have excellent knowledge and able to support staff with implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
In addition, we are looking for someone who has a sound knowledge of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and understands the need to be culturally responsive.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting the principal to work on improving the schools’ learning environment as well implementing the school’s marketing and branding plan.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students, (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
