About the Role
The successful applicant will ideally use explicit teaching strategies and exhibit effective classroom management skills to enhance student learning and wellbeing. Applicants should also be flexible, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to professional learning and a high-level of participation in collaborative team planning.
They will plan, program and assess using an integrated curriculum, differentiated to meet individual student needs. Applicants will also ideally have highly effective teaching practices, an ability to self-reflect and a willingness to seek constant improvement in their own practice.
We are seeking applicants who are hardworking and knowledgeable about a range of disabilities and the implementation of strategies to support and enhance individual development in all areas. Teachers in an education support environment positively manage a team of Education Assistants to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students. They engage with and contribute to the school community and work collaboratively with families, therapists, and outside agencies to improve student outcomes.
About the School
Cassia ESC is a small government school for students identified with intellectual disabilities and who may present with physical disabilities as well. The Centre caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and shares its campus with Cassia Primary School. As the only Specialist Education Support Centre in the Pilbara, we attract students from a range of backgrounds. We value and celebrate the incredible diversity that is evident across our school community, as it provides a rich tapestry of experience that is ever changing and developing.
We respect and value all our students as individuals and cater for them using Individual Education Plans and Individual Behaviour Management Plans. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
