Tambrey Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Mainstream Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2025.
About the Role
As a Mainstream Education Assistant, you should be organised and able to use initiative to assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment by maintaining equipment, materials and resources, for use in classes. Suitable applicants will assist with displays and with cleaning and safe storage of items after classes and activities. They will assist the teacher with the care and supervision of students in out-of-class activities and on school excursions.
As a Mainstream Education Assistant, you should be motivated, organised and nurturing with a passion for working with students in a team environment. Suitable applicants should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to assist in the implementation and delivery of education programs and build meaningful relationships with children and their families.
This role involves working as part of a dedicated team and provides you with the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our school community. You would support the overall health and emotional wellbeing of students and should use initiative and creativity to assist in the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.
Mainstream Education Assistants may work in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary classroom roles or our successful intervention program in junior and middle blocks so being flexible and adaptable to change are favourable traits for this role. Suitable applicants should possess a deep commitment to developing positive and productive relationships, embedding a proactive, inclusive and respectful approach. They should be open to ongoing learning and development.

The location and community
Tambrey PS is an Independent Public School, centrally located in the City of Karratha 1600km north-west of Perth. Our school is part of the Pilbara Education Region and has recently celebrated its 34th anniversary. The Pilbara has diverse cultural and environmental experiences from Exmouth to Broome to Tom Price.
Karratha offers a number of modern facilities and is one of the fastest growing towns in the north of Western Australia. Known as ‘Munjaree’- or the heart of the West Pilbara Coast - its size and central location make it the ideal base for exploring the natural delights of the area. Millstream- Chichester National Park, Karijini National Park, Dampier Archipelago, Point Samson Peninsula and the Burrup Peninsula and Murujuga National Park - Karratha is the home of boating, camping and fishing.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents and teaching professionals.
- Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
