Are you seeking an opportunity to lead others and want to work in a supportive and structured environment?
WA College of Agriculture - Denmark (WACOA – Denmark) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Chef to join their College.
The successful applicant will be a team player and possess strong organisational skills to manage the Kitchen Department of the College. The applicant must either hold a trade qualification in cooking or possess experience supporting equivalence. A key focus of the role is to provide effective leadership strategies to support staff within the kitchen team. The Chef’s role is to work with the team to present quality and healthy food for students, staff, and visitors, including catering for dietary requirements. The successful applicant will also be responsible for managing and rostering employees. They will ensure food and equipment is ordered as required, within the budgeted funds.
With a farm on site, including an abattoir, the kitchen is very fortunate to have access to a wide range of products produced on site. The successful applicant will be proficient in preparing menus that promote ‘paddock to plate’ practices prioritising the use of seasonal products based on their availability.
College kitchen staff have the unique advantage of working together during the day. Staff are rostered on a rotation basis between 6.00am and 7pm, seven days a week. Service is delivered through a buffet, with no A La Carte service. 170 students and staff all eat together during pre-determined breaks within the school day. 95 residential students are catered for outside of school hours. The volume of catering can create time pressures on kitchen staff and the successful applicant needs to have strong time-management skills with experience working under pressure. The unique nature of our school kitchen environment means that food service is delivered quickly, and staff work together as a team. This allows our kitchen staff to take their meal breaks together creating a positive team culture.
WACOA – Denmark is a 560-hectare working farm and educational facility for Year 10 to 12 students offering a wide variety of studies and industry training with an agricultural focus. We attract students from all over the state from a wide variety of backgrounds and have a capacity of around 150 students of which 95 are residential students.
While the majority of our students board in the College's residential facility, there are a number of day students, and a bus service is provided to and from Albany. Our prime location is both a strength and motivation for us to continue to deliver outstanding outcomes for our students and develop strong partnerships with the community, to ensure our long-term future.
