This is a permanent part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024
Craigie Heights Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and committed Gardener – Handyperson to join their friendly team.
In this role, the successful applicant will ideally show initiative in maintaining and presenting the school grounds and gardens in a clean, tidy condition, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment. You should perform minor repairs and maintenance, as well as perform tasks and duties using safe work practices, with minimal disruption to students and staff. You will ideally provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Service on school grounds maintenance and maintain accurate gardening records. Working collaboratively with the Grounds Committee, you will manage the redevelopment of redesigned gardens around the school.

We cater for over 380 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process. (other than online option)
