Wyalkatchem District High School (DHS) is seeking a Secondary Generalist Teacher to join their high quality regional school.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Wyalkatchem District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $7000.00 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
It will be highly beneficial if the successful applicant can develop a supportive and positive classroom environment, possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively and effectively in a professional learning community setting. The successful applicant should display an ability to elicit positive student behaviour using Positive Behaviour Support approach. A willingness to teach across multiple learning areas in secondary areas.
They should have a commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes. The capacity to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of students with a range of achievement levels, language backgrounds and learning difficulties will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant should have the ability to work collaboratively to plan and implement effective teaching and learning plans. You will ideally provide excellence in creating and maintaining a supportive and safe learning environment and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.
Our school
Wyalkatchem DHS, in the Central Wheatbelt, caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 10 We are a small District High School of 51 students with 25 secondary students, split into two cohorts being Year 7 and 8 and Year 9 and 10. SIDE provides LOTE and Design & Technology Woodwork online classes.
Our school is a central part of the community and parents play a vital role, helping in classroom programs and volunteering on the School Council, Parents and Citizens Association and at sporting events, which we value highly.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
