Appointment Pool
Morley Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Assistant Gardener – Handypersons for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.
Suitable applicants will maintain school grounds, including turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, and trees, ensure grounds and gardens are in a clean and tidy condition, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a suitable growing environment for the soft landscape, including gardens, lawns, and broader turf management, maintaining hard landscaping such as courts and paving and marking sports areas as required.
The Assistant Gardener Handyperson will perform minor repairs and maintenance according to the Department’s policies and guidelines, maintain gardening facilities, equipment and tools to a neat, clean, and serviceable standard and report faults as appropriate.
Suitable applicants should perform tasks and duties using safe work practices, including management of hazardous substances in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation, in a timely manner with minimal disruption to students and staff.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement and;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
- complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
