Yarralinka Primary School (PS) is seeking a vibrant and committed Deputy Principal to join our school team.
At Yarralinka PS, relationships built on trust and respect, are the foundation for the development of a positive school culture. The Deputy Principal will ideally build successful relationships with students, staff, parents and outside agencies to deliver high level outcomes for all students, every day. The successful applicant should be an advocate for evidence based, best practice approaches and open to learning and continually develop their understanding to build capacity school wide.
As a Deputy Principal, you should establish and sustain effective collaborative approaches to lead whole school improvement, instructional practice and curriculum development. The ability to analyse data to inform teaching and learning and apply adaptive relational leadership skills when working with all stakeholders is highly desirable. As an exemplary leader, you should be able to model agreed whole-school teaching strategies with staff, mentor and coach staff as part of a performance and development culture, and support classroom observations and ongoing feedback cycles. The school is coming to the end of its current business planning cycle, so this is an exciting opportunity to play a role in shaping our future direction.
The successful applicant will ideally have strong instructional practices, student services and curriculum leadership, and experience in implementing school improvement and change management processes. They should lead collaborative teams in the setting and monitoring of a cohesive, connected approach to curriculum and pedagogical development across the school whilst supporting the educational needs of students. They should lead staff across the school to achieve whole school initiatives and Business Plan targets.
As a recently established school that is continuing to grow, early childhood students make up a significant number of our student population, and knowledge of exemplary teaching practices and leading curriculum initiatives in this area is highly desirable.
Yarralinka PS is located in the growing community of Southern River and currently caters from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students attending the school come from a wide range of cultural and language backgrounds. All students have the potential to achieve big things, which is why we place a strong focus on developing all aspects of a child- social, emotional, physical and academic. We work on the understanding that this can only be achieved through collaboration and authentic community partnerships. Everyone at our school - from the principal to the cleaning team- takes on the responsibility of building relationships with students and families in a respectful and culturally responsive manner.
We support students to build sound social skills and achieve academic goals. They have opportunities to apply what they have learnt to real life situations, and our dedicated staff put an incredible amount of effort and creativity into the experiences they organise within our classes. At Yarralinka Primary School our staff work as a cohesive team with a collective responsibility for the progress of all students. Our curriculum programs are built upon using consistent high, quality teaching strategies across all classrooms.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
