Appointment Pool
Newton Moore Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of dedicated Gardener - Handypersons for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2 2025.
As a Gardener - Handyperson, suitable applicants will work to provide gardening, grounds, and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. You will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive clean and tidy condition and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management.
In this role you will help perform maintenance and light repairs. The role also includes performing routine landscaping on the school grounds. In this role you will maintain tools, help stocktake and ensure equipment is in a serviceable condition and provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Services on school grounds and maintenance.
Suitable applicants should display effective communication skills, be able to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff and external stakeholders and ideally be able to work unsupervised, with the ability to identify and recognise work that is required to be completed. You should also be well organised, have attention to detail, a positive outlook and be a team player.

Eligibility and Training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process. (other than online option)
