Belmont City College (CC) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Deputy Principal.
In collaboration with the principal and members of the college executive and senior leadership teams, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community. Developing and promoting the college’s vision, values, motto, and ethos, and encouraging staff, students, families, community, and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals will be crucial.
The Deputy Principal has responsibility for the enrolment, pastoral care, and academic achievement for students in Years 7-9. They will analyse and monitor student academic, attendance, and behaviour data to ensure appropriate strategies and interventions are in place to support students with their education. Applicants with experience and knowledge of classroom management and positive behaviour support strategies, and who have worked with students at educational risk, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Deputy Principal contributes to the development of the school plan through participative decision-making, including assisting in developing policy, and establishing and maintaining systems. They will use their professional knowledge and understanding to promote high quality teaching and learning providing coaching and mentoring to staff.
The successful applicant will ideally have highly developed interpersonal skills and will be able to work collaboratively with others to ensure planned outcomes are achieved. They will ideally have the knowledge and understandings of culturally responsive leadership and the ability to understand, respect, and respond effectively to diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
