Newborough Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated educator with excellent leadership qualities for the role of Deputy Principal encompassing:
- Student Services
- Promoting Quality Teaching and Learning
- Management of Student Behaviour
- Overseeing ICT
In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school’s vision and the Newborough Way.
Suitable applicants will ideally possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to provide excellence in educational leadership, the ability to self-reflect, promote an environment of active and positive behaviour management, lead data driven strategies and be knowledgeable about curriculum support strategies. You would work closely with students, teachers and the community to achieve the best educational outcomes for students.
Suitable applicants should have a clear understanding of the conditions and learning environments required to prepare students for success. They will ideally be high performers with successful leadership and management experience. Experience in managing the Students at Educational Risk processes will be advantageous as would an understanding of students with ASD and complex behaviour issues.
Newborough PS became an Independent Public School in 2012. The school has had a proud history since it was founded in 1955. Since then, extensive renovations and extensions have created a pleasant educational facility. This includes a purpose-built library, an undercover area that is fully enclosed and excellent early childhood facilities. Expansive lawn areas, large trees and modern playground equipment, are features of the school environment.
Newborough PS is a Positive Behaviour Wellbeing and Support School which promotes the behaviours of Respect, Teamwork, Kindness and Challenge Yourself. The school focuses on student well-being and the deliberate nurturing of a whole school community in its Business Plan. A range of programs are in place to support and develop the core values as outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
