About Wiluna Remote Community School
Wiluna Remote Community School saw a positive 2023 school year, as the community continued to implement the school’s vision and newly formed Strategic Plan to create a culture which provides a safe, supportive, inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment, and which supports students to be confident and creative individuals who are active informed members of their community.
Well-staffed, and with high-intake in the Early Childhood, the school returned to a more conventional K-6 classroom structure for Primary School (K/PP/1, Year 2/3/4 and Year 5/6), with Middle School (7/8) and High School (9-12) making up the Secondary sector.
School staff continued to be involved in cultural learning, which was bolstered by the increase of Two-Way Science excursions, and on country learning through the implementation of of the Two-Way Science Co-ordinator position. Staff were involved in training relevant to the Quality Teaching Framework, with the view to implement explicit instruction and spaced retrieval practise through daily reviews and PL provided through the Scaling up Success initiative. The next step is to consolidate this as part of teaching and classroom practise across the school.
After a successful Public School Review (PSR) process in 2022, the school received a 1-Year review in the areas of ‘Teaching Quality’ and ‘Student Achievement & Progress’, which the school successfully navigated. The school’s PSR was officially endorsed by the Deputy Director General, with the next review scheduled for 2026. This was an incredible achievement and celebrated accordingly with staff and community.
