School Of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a dedicated and creative Marketing and Communications Officer to join their team.
In this role you will provide strategic marketing advice to the School Executive team, working collaboratively with them to develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive marketing communications strategy for SIDE. You will also prepare publication/production materials and produce a range of communication tools which may include - advertisements, the school website, Facebook, the annual report, our college business plan and regular newsletters. The Marketing and Communications Officer is also responsible for developing/maintaining promotional materials, conducting market research, organising and coordinating marketing events, including attending after hours functions.
The successful applicant will ideally possess high-level oral, written, and interpersonal communication, analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills. You should also be able to work in a collaborative team environment and be committed to building quality communication with all stakeholders and developing strong strategic partnerships and alliances. The applicant is required to be adaptive, flexible and responsive at short notice.
SIDE is the main centre for Kindergarten to Year 12 distance education and online learning within Western Australian Department of Education and also delivers vocational education and training (VET) programs as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). SIDE provides quality education for students who for various reasons cannot attend classes in a regular school. Our students may be located across all regions of Western Australia, including remote communities. This position therefore will be required to travel. Applicants with experience dealing with indigenous communities or organisations would be preferred.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in a medium sized service organisation in a multi-faceted communications marketing role.
- Skills and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating marketing and/or communication strategies.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills and experience in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and alliances.
- Well developed events, project management and organisational skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Experience at an advanced level with the use of design and publishing software.
- Experience and understanding of brand management, graphic design principles, print production, website, social media management and database management.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
