Teachers and school administrators employed at Merredin College in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $7,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
About the role
Merredin College is seeking an ambitious and passionate primary teacher to join our team. The successful applicant should be a reflective educator that is focussed on providing high quality teaching and learning programs designed to meet the needs of our students and to provide a quality education close to home.
To be suitable for this role, you should be student and relationship focused, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment.
Ideally, applicants would have a practical knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), an ability to differentiate the curriculum and a pedagogical approach that embraces visible learning strategies. The ability to foster and maintain positive communication with parents is highly regarded.
Our school
Merredin College is a lighthouse rural school providing a high-quality educational program for approximately 600 students from kindergarten to Year 12. Our students live in the Merredin township, travel from nearby towns and reside at Merredin Residential College. The broader community is positively involved with our school.
At Merredin College we aim to be the best we can be in everything we do. We cater for a broad range of students, including students with disabilities, providing a range of targeted interventions and varied educational pathways to engage and grow our students. Each year we have students achieving above 90 in ATAR, completion of higher-level certificates, apprenticeships, traineeships and employment.
Location and Community
Merredin College is located 256 kilometres east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt. Positioned on the trainline, the Prospector connects all towns between Perth and Kalgoorlie-Boulder providing convenient travel across the Wheatbelt and Goldfields. There are numerous opportunities for day trips with places such as Wave Rock and Kulin Aquatic Centre and Slide close by. Merredin is located on the Goldfields Heritage Trail providing the avid bushwalker or camper with many opportunities to explore our wonderful country. Those interested in The Arts are also catered for with the Arts Society and Cummins theatre both located in Merredin.
In true regional spirit there is a strong sporting culture. There are great facilities in the Merredin District Olympic Pool and Merredin Regional Community and Leisure Centre along with many other outdoor sporting facilities.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
