Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated English Teacher who will have the additional role of Instructional Coach to join our team. The role, which will have a 0.6 face-to-face teaching load, is ideally suited for a highly accomplished teacher seeking to develop their leadership skills and move into more formal leadership roles. We are committed to supporting teachers on their leadership journey. The successful applicant will have access to customised professional learning and mentoring.
We are committed to excellence in teaching and learning and are seeking a like-minded teacher with a passion for teaching secondary students and a sound understanding of the West Australian English curriculum. Ideally, the successful applicant will have the knowledge and experience to teach Senior School including an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Course of study. The successful applicant will ideally have experience in high impact instruction and a desire to build collective efficacy in the teaching team to successfully engage students in English. A strong interest and experience in mentoring graduate teachers will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally be an active contributor to the English Learning Area and reflective in their practice to support professional growth and improvement of educational outcomes for students. The ability to differentiate curriculum and implement innovative approaches to improve outcomes for both high and low achieving students is a key element to this position. Ideally you will build and model positive relationships with your students and be passionate about creating positive futures for all students.
Byford SC is an Independent Public School approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD. The College opened in 2015 and currently has a cohort of over 1500 Year 7 to Year 12 students with annual growth in student enrolments. Our College provides for the secondary education needs of students from Byford and the surrounding communities.
Byford SC has become a focal point for secondary education provision for students with disabilities with our inclusion facilities. Our motto, Aspire to Excellence, clearly articulates our vision of being the secondary school of choice for the local community, which provides a comprehensive suite of subjects from Year 7 through Year 12.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
