This is a three (3) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension (6 months) and/or permanency
Ellenbrook Secondary College (SC) is seeking a motivated and caring individual to fill the role of Head of Department (HOD) – Learning Support.
An immediate commencment date is preferred, however, this can be negotiated with the successful applicant.
In collaboration with the Principal and members of Administration team the HOD – Learning Support provides educational leadership in the school and the community. The HOD – Learning Support has oversight and leadership of the school funded Educational Support classes and Educational Support teachers. Proven ability to lead the whole school in best practice pedagogical approaches to maximise educational outcomes for students in mainstream classes with imputed and diagnosed disabilities is highly valuable.
The successful applicant should bring proven change management skills as the HOD – Learning Support together with the Associate Principal – Curriculum will oversee a restructure of the Educational Support services with the Learning Support team to provide guidance and training to the whole school. A well-developed ability to form and maintain effective working relationships for all stakeholders that improve student outcomes is desirable.
The HOD – Learning Support should possess the ability to provide educational leadership to maintain and then increase the level of student progression within the school based Direct Instruction interventions model for students identified in year 7 and year 8 with intense need of literacy and numeracy intervention. Additional responsibilities will include staff training, Education Assistant allocation and management, School Plus and Nationally Consistent Collection of Data.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
