Appointment Pool
Southwest Regional Education Office is seeking to establish a pool of PEAC Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2024 and up to the end of April 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2024, up to the end of April 2025.
PEAC teachers are responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of supplementary extension and challenge programs for identified Gifted and Talented students in Years 5 and 6 in primary schools in the Western Australian public system. PEAC teachers work as part of a regional team to deliver a critical and creative skills focussed, differentiated curriculum for students identified as gifted and talented.
The key outcomes of the program are:
- To deliver primary extension programs, which are developed in accordance with regional and departmental policies and guidelines.
- Administrative systems are established and maintained to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the PEAC program.
- Liaison with schools to enable the integration of school and PEAC activities according to regional directions.
- Assistance with the implementation of gifted and talented program strategies in relevant schools is provided in accordance with the regional and departmental policies and guidelines.
- Professional development activities in the region related to gifted and talented education are facilitated to implement regional and department policies and guidelines.
- Support gifted and talented education networks in the region to allow the exchange of professional ideas and best practice.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Development and delivery of challenging teaching and learning programs
- Assessment and reporting of students’ progress
- Participation in regional planning and program reviews
- Delivery of professional learning support and programs
- Maintaining contact with students’ home school
- Provision of advice and support for parents
- Assisting region-wide testing in consultation with the Regional Assessment Coordinator to manage test records, analysis and information to and from schools
The Southwest Education Regional Office is one of eight regional offices located across the State. Regional offices and local education offices are staffed as determined by the Director of Education, in accordance with local context and needs. All officers appointed to regional offices and local education offices are responsible for supporting schools in the regions by promoting system initiatives and providing support and quality assurance to enhance the outcomes of schooling.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
