The System Response and Transformation (SRT) division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled Senior Business and Data Analyst to contribute to the improvement of positive educational outcomes for young people in Western Australia. The Division
The System Response and Transformation Division (SRT) drives high performance and assurance at a system level by providing senior leaders with visibility and assurance of system performance and improvement initiatives. This is achieved by ensuring strategic responses and projects are delivered within expectations; collecting and analysing data and reporting on performance; and overseeing the development of transformation opportunities in line with the Department’s strategic intent. The Division’s Business Intelligence team has responsibility for the Department’s data strategy. This includes the continuous improvement of data displays for senior leadership to support understanding of performance, and data analysis to inform decision making related to the delivery of the Department’s strategic intent and high-performing operations.
The Branch
The Business Intelligence (BI) team is a newly established function in the System Assurance directorate, with passionate and innovative team members that are eager to push boundaries and try new things. The team works closely with the broader SRT division to identify, design and create useful and sustainable data products for our corporate executive and senior leadership groups, to assist with strategic decision making and system level monitoring. In addition, the team is involved in supporting teams to re-engineer business processes to support new ways of working. The team also plays a role in influencing and driving data related strategy across the organisation.
The team enjoys modern ways of working including hybrid work arrangements, working in agile sprints, and highly values working collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation. The Team has established and coordinates the Department’s Power BI Community of Practice.
The Role
As the Senior Business and Data Analyst, you will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders to design and build strategically focused Power BI dashboards for our senior leaders. You will also work closely with business areas from across the Department to help re-design data capture processes that underpin the BI team’s data products. You will contribute to maturing the BI function, including developing data management practices and documenting detailed procedures to ensure the sustainability of the products created by the team.
This role is suited to someone with great stakeholder engagement skills; strong foundations in data engineering and data visualisation; a good problem solver; and someone with experience, or a desire to work in agile teams.

- Demonstrated highly developed technical understanding of data management concepts and practices.
- Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including ability to manage stakeholder relationships and undertake high-level consultation and negotiation to generate advice, presentations and user documentation.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check if required
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
