Castletown Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Officer to support the school’s financial processes including accounts and payroll and provide support to the executive team. Applicants with excellent computer skills who have experience using word processing and data software packages are encouraged to apply.
The School Officer will support the front office with reception duties, including greeting visitors, answering the telephone, and responding to routine enquiries, processing enrolments and requests for information. You will provide general clerical and administrative support, preparing correspondence, newsletters, notices, reports, maintaining filing and information systems and maintaining our school website and messaging services.
The successful applicant will also assist with the maintenance of school facilities, assets and resources, maintain and order office supplies, distribute and collect documents, forms and mail, and collect and receipt monies in accordance with Departmental procedures.
The School Officer enters and maintains the enrolment data, student attendance records and absentee reports and generates routine reports from the school databases. Experience in Schools Information Systems (SIMS) including Integris and/or Compass is highly regarded.
The School Officer may be responsible for maintaining the school’s professional learning and technology registers and keeping record systems up to date. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective information systems will be well regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally possess strong organisational skills in delivering and prioritising tasks in a busy environment. As a team player, you should exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with all clients, as well as a very high degree of customer focus when liaising with staff, students, parents, and external agencies.
As you will be the first point of contact within the school, you will ideally be friendly and solutions focused, assisting in the induction of new support staff whilst undertaking staff relief processes on a daily basis.
Castletown PS is an Independent Public School situated in the seaside town of Esperance, home to the best beaches in the world. Our school caters for approximately 500 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Many of our children travel in from outlying farming hinterland. The remainder of the school population is typically urban with children from a diverse range of backgrounds.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and /or preparing financial returns.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
