The role

Hedland SHS is currently seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, innovative, and proactive teacher – Design and Technology to join our Trades, Industry and Enterprise team.

The teacher – Design and Technology will provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities in our Trades, Industry and Enterprise learning area, while creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. We’re looking for engaging an energetic teacher, who is a future thinker, someone who can build upon our traditional trades courses and build capacity to meet the needs of our 21 st Century learners by preparing them for real-world futures in Trades, Industry and Enterprise.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal skills, who is committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. Ideally you should be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment. You will reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available, promote an environment of active and positive learning, and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and the capacity to teach students of varying ability levels across Year 7 – 12 in a safe and accountable learning environment, differentiating curriculum where needed.  Knowledge and experience in teaching Certificate Courses and Engineering Studies, knowledge of Senior Secondary schooling, a strong understanding of the School Curriculum & Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements, University and TAFE requirements and pathways, and Departmental systems and policies being highly regarded.  

We will consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. If this interests you, please gain the approval of your principal before applying.

In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered. In this circumstance, a fixed term appointment as an untrained teacher for the 2024 school year will be offered.
