Ballajura Community College (CC) is seeking to appoint a Head of Department – Technologies with the dedication and drive to develop a culture of excellence in teaching and learning in secondary technologies.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of our dedicated senior leadership team, collaborating with staff, students, and the broader school community to provide educational leadership. This role involves developing and promoting the school's vision and strategic direction. As the Head of Department – Technologies, you will lead a diverse team of teachers across various contexts. Your focus will be on solutions, and you'll play a crucial role in developing your team through curriculum leadership and collaborative efforts to ensure high-quality teaching meets the diverse needs of all students. Your responsibilities will encompass coordinating the planning, teaching, learning, and monitoring of students within the Technologies learning area. Additionally, fostering staff improvement and aligning practices with the school's pedagogy are essential aspects of this role. Ideally you will work to enhance staff capacity in teaching and learning, contributing to the development of a professional learning culture among the staff.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished classroom practitioner, demonstrating expertise in their subject and a genuine passion for it. They should possess the ability to cultivate a culture of excellence across Technologies that caters to the diverse needs of all students. Familiarity with the Western Australian Technologies Curriculum is preferred. Strong candidates will exhibit exceptional communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with students, staff, parents, industry partners, and community members. An understanding of Vocational Education Training (VET) pathways, coupled with a Cert IV in Training and Assessment, will be highly regarded for this position.

Ballajura CC stands as one of the largest providers of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses in the North East Metropolitan Region. Committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience, our college offers a range of flexible programs tailored to accommodate the diverse interests, needs, and abilities of all students.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Ballajura CC offers a variety of certificate courses that complement students' WACE courses of study. The demand for these courses is on the rise, with many students choosing to complete a Vocational Education and Training (VET) Certification qualification as part of their WACE. Additionally, we provide an alternative program pathway, ACCESS, which has demonstrated outstanding success in engaging young people in education.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
