South Coogee Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish an Associate Principal pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.
We are seeking applicants who inspire passion for learning in others, who possess the curriculum knowledge and skill to lead and support classroom teachers, teams, learning communities and phase groups in teaching, learning, assessment and reporting across the areas of the Western Australian Curriculum. Suitable applicants should ideally have outstanding communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, and be committed to achieving the best outcomes for each and every one of our students. You will ideally have strong experience leading teacher quality, using evidence informed practices to improve learning outcomes for all students, and be able to work through complex situations individually as well as in a team environment.
Successful experience in leading school improvement is desirable. Suitable applicants will ideally possess a deep knowledge of curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 6 with the skills to lead staff to use strategies including the ability to think and respond strategically and identify innovative and practical solutions to challenges and opportunities is highly regarded. Suitable applicants should provide curriculum support and development of best practice in teaching and classroom management to teachers.
As an Associate Principal you will lead the development and review of Operational Plans to create and drive strategic direction, assist with the analysis of whole school data to drive planning, and improve student outcomes. Suitable applicants will be committed to working in professional learning teams, where there is a focus on collaboration, learning based on student needs and continual, rigorous school self-assessment and improvement cycles.
We require a pedagogical leader who will provide educational leadership across all areas of the school and the community, by developing and promoting the school vision, values, and priorities as well as encouraging staff, students, families, community, and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals as articulated in the Business Plan. The Associate Principal will have skills and knowledge to support performance and development processes, including classroom observation and feedback with a focus on explicit teaching and should provide curriculum support and development of best practice in teaching and classroom management to teachers. Suitable applicants should have a sound knowledge of effective intervention strategies to improve outcomes for all students including Students at Academic Risk (SAER) and students with special needs.
Suitable applicants will ideally have a proven history of successful change management in schools particularly in implementation of whole school initiatives. This should be linked to highly-developed interpersonal skills that encourage our staff and families to aspire to excellence.
South Coogee PS is an Independent Public School. It caters for around 440 children Kindergarten to Year 6 and is located approximately 13 km south of Fremantle. The school buildings are modern, grounds are attractive and classrooms are spacious and designed to promote collaborative teaching and learning practices. We have a strong focus on whole school Literacy, Numeracy and STEM programs and have recently won the Wastesorted Award for our whole school Sustainability program.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
