This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly effective and motivated person to join our growing college in this newly created role, as we progress into senior school.
The role of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Workplace Learning (WPL) Officer will require you to work closely with the Program Coordinator – Pathways, to support the operations of the VET, WPL and Careers Programs across Years 7 to 12, including establishing and maintaining program documentation, procedures, and support material. The successful applicant will establish a network of local business to provide work placements, conduct site inspections and meet with prospective employers and/or Registered Training Organisations, as required and visit and monitor students on work placement, as required.
Whilst the role will predominantly see the successful applicant working across the senior school space, it will also involve support for Years 7 to 9 careers programs, pathway events and career tasters. As VET and WPL Officer you will also provide high level administrative support to the Program Coordinator.
The successful applicant should be well organised, and possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. They will ideally have a high level of attention to detail and be confident in working with students, staff, parents/carers, employers, as well as community/industry representatives.
About Us
Located in the northern suburb of Alkimos with sweeping ocean views, Alkimos College opened in 2020 with our foundation Year 7 cohort, providing local intake area students with access to an exceptional secondary education in world-class learning facilities. Each year we will add an additional cohort, until we reach our full complement of Year 7 -12 in 2025.
Stage 1 buildings include administration, student services, library, gymnasium, fitness centre, food studios, cafeteria, technologies, general classrooms, nine specialist science laboratories, nature play area and the Specialised Autism Program classroom and Homeroom. Shared oval and community facilities with the City of Wanneroo are available via the adjacent Halesworth Park precinct. Stage 2, (ready in 2024), will include a hospitality centre, performing arts theatre, lecture theatre, additional student services and general classrooms. Please note the Careers Centre is centrally located on the college campus, in the Library.
The college places a high priority on professional learning, with a focus on a whole of college instructional framework as part of our ‘Alkimos Approach.’ A commitment to self-reflection and growth is vital. The college uses a coaching framework for all planning, review, performance development and classroom observation and feedback. Staff are expected to embrace technology and innovation and enhance their skills with technology to improve work practices. The college provides students with a range of devices available to suit the learning required.
Alkimos College has high expectations of the student cohort to ensure all students are well prepared for their future, and have the opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to achieve their potential. This is complemented by a strong focus on student engagement and mental health and wellbeing, through our bespoke Anchor Program. Alkimos College has a Specialised Autism Learning Program, an academic extension pathway and in 2022 commenced the Gifted and Talented Academic Selective Entrance Program.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- knowledge and understanding of Workplace Learning programs and contexts with ability to induct employers, staff and students on workplace learning procedures.
- knowledge of Vocational programs and ability to facilitate college/industry partnerships.
- experience in developing, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on suitable Vocational programs for students.
- sound written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, employers, and parents.
- initiative and sound organisational skills with ability to initiate, plan and coordinate activities and work collaboratively and autonomously in a team environment.
- sound keyboarding and computer skills, including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- hold a current Western Australian Drivers Licence.
- hold or obtain a valid White Card.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
