About the role
The Deputy Principal Student Support (DP-SS) leads the strategic leadership of student wellbeing. Key aspects of the portfolio will be leading the development of our Wellbeing Framework, Behaviour Support, and Attendance improvement. The DP-SS develops, reviews, and refines school policy and guidelines that govern all aspects of student wellbeing and support in collaboration with the school executive and senior leadership teams. They ensure quality case management, working collaboratively with the Program Coordinators - Student Support (PC-SS), to lead whole school student wellbeing initiatives and leading the development and implementation of a new vision for our morning Form/Homeroom Program.
The DP-SS uses their exceptional influence and evidence-based decision-making to build leadership capacity and skills, supporting PC-SS’s development as they oversee the operational management of our Student Support Centre. The DP-SS shares complex case involvement, and whole school case management working collaboratively with the onsite allied support team, external agencies and wider school staff and community to promote the wellbeing of each student. They lead the school in maintaining a positive learning environment where each students’ physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development is fostered, and our students thrive.
In collaboration with the Student Support and Aboriginal Education teams, you will review behaviour support processes and lead the implementation of a streamlined framework that is applied effectively and consistently by the whole school. Through you, PC-SS’s work with Student Support Leaders to ensure they are working proactively, promoting a sense of belonging for all students, working restoratively to solve conflict, and engaging students, caregivers and staff in participative decision-making, resulting in improved community relationships and whole school regular attendance.
While the position we are initially seeking to fill is primarily for the portfolio of Student Services and Student Wellbeing, there may be later movement in the team to meet future needs. We are looking for the applicant who has various skill sets and can display transferable skills and appropriate knowledge across whole school planning.
The Ideal Applicant
- You have a mastery of system data tools and the ability to develop targeted metrics to support your informed decision-making and strategic planning of targeted initiatives to enhance student wellbeing, progress, and achievement will be essential.
- You will have a deep belief that a positive school culture will support every student to consistently display positive and respectful behaviour. You continually strive to improve processes and practices and improved student outcomes.
- A life-long learner, you will be a self-motivated, reflective practitioner with a thirst for knowledge, set goals and achieve them. You are a passionate coach and mentor who authentically inspires staff performance and development.
- A highly organised leader, with exceptional collaborative skills, a demonstrated capacity to lead teams to deliver quality case management for students with complex support needs.
- Operating from a restorative and educative foundation, you can lead Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) possessing the ability to self-regulate and manage escalated situations with clarity and reason resulting in educative outcomes and develop these skills in others.
- A comprehensive knowledge or experience with Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) Instructions Strategies for Engagement (ISE), conferencing, Conference Accredited Training, (or equivalent), and a working knowledge of Compass would be advantageous.

- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Employees will be required to:
