The Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA) is seeking to establish a pool of highly motivated, experienced, and collaborative teaching practitioners for casual appointments throughout 2024 to provide professional standards assessments for the purposes of teacher registration.

Casual appointments can range from three-hour engagements to four-week appointments.

In this role, Professional Standards Assessors assess teaching practice against the Professional Standards for Teachers in Western Australia at the Proficient career stage.  For teachers to be eligible for Full Registration they must be able to demonstrate that they have met the Professional Standards at this stage.

Typically, assessments and recommendations about proficiency are undertaken at the educational venue. In some circumstances, however, teachers are unable to have their teaching practice assessed against the Professional Standards by an appropriate person at an education venue. In such cases, teachers can apply directly to the TRBWA for an assessment of their proficiency against the Professional Standards.

To be suitable for this role you will ideally have extensive teaching and/or educational leadership/management or mentoring experience and extensive knowledge and understanding of current pedagogy, classroom practice, quality teaching and extensive experience observing teachers’ practice and providing professional advice and constructive feedback.

Suitable applicants will ideally have high level understanding and experience in interpreting and applying the Professional Standards and in assessing against the requirements for the Professional Standards to make judgements as to whether a teacher’s practice meets the Proficient career stage.

  4. Demonstrated high level written communication and presentation skills, including experience in preparing reports.
  5. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to undertaken high level collaborations and negotiations and establish effective working relationships at all levels.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered as a teacher in the category of Full Registration (or equivalent) or has done so in the past five years
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
    • the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
