This role will suit someone who is highly motivated, relationship-focused, and passionate about creating exciting, culturally responsive learning experiences to ignite a desire to learn in students.
The Ideal Teacher
The successful applicant should have a passion for Humanities and Social Sciences and English and have the ability to implement instructional strategies that maximise students’ engagement in their learning and motivate both junior and senior school students to achieve to their full potential. You will ideally be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collegially with other staff.
The successful applicant will ideally have an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and be able to teach students of varying ability levels, differentiating the curriculum across Year 7 to 10 in a highly engaging manner. You will ideally have experience in teaching senior secondary HASS and English and possess strong skills and experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) HASS and English. Ability to teach English to lower school students will be highly regarded. Mentoring will be available to applicants lacking experience.
We would consider secondary generalists and those with the ability to teach lower school science or mathematics would be highly regarded.

Our Location and Community
Wagin (meaning the Emu’s Watering Place) is located 228 km southeast of Perth in the heart of Western Australia’s Great Southern Region. The population of the Shire is approximately 1800 and the Shire comprises an area of 1950 square kilometres. The economy of the district is based on agriculture with wheat, barley, oats, canola, and lupins being the main crops and sheep and cattle production being prominent.
Sport and recreation play an important part in the Wagin community and the town is well serviced by recreational facilities with sports such as tennis, cricket, football, badminton, lawn bowls, golf, darts, shooting, trotting, go-karts, motorcycle club, swimming and hockey being most prominent.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
