About the role
South Headland PS is looking for a proactive, flexible and collaborative teacher who is motivated to engage in their ongoing development. Those who show a high level of initiative will be highly regarded.
The successful applicant will ideally have outstanding interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively and build genuine relationships with parents, students and staff members. You will ideally establish a positive and welcoming classroom environment with high expectations, while building students’ positive social and emotional skills.
The successful applicant should possess exemplary teaching skills, be highly motivated and hold themselves accountable to delivering best practice. You should also be able to work in an environment characterised by whole school connected practice, collaborative team structures and a strong commitment to professional growth.
Ideally, the successful applicant will have a passion for teaching and will take advantage of high impact teaching strategies, with experience in the planning and delivery of engaging programs with a particular focus on explicit instruction. A deep understanding of how to differentiate to meet the needs of all students is required, as is the ability to use a variety of assessment tools to inform progress, enable constructive feedback and drive future planning at a classroom level.
Our school
Our school has an extremely cohesive, friendly and supportive staff, making South Hedland Primary School a very pleasant place to work. Those new to teaching will be highly supported to develop their understanding and delivery of highly effective and evidence-based practices.
South Hedland PS currently accommodates 270 students on site, from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school is regarded by the community as promoting a supportive learning environment and where all staff demonstrate concern and care for students. There is a strong emphasis on pastoral care in our school and we foster strong relationships the community to support student learning.
School leadership is shared and cohesive with a strong emphasis on collaborative teaching, coaching models and professional learning. Our school is enriched by teachers with enthusiasm and a willingness to 'have a go' and this creates a stimulating, productive learning environment, where staff are supported by 'in school' coaching.
Priorities include a focus on improving attendance as well as improving literacy & numeracy achievement. Specialist programs offered to students include LOTE - Indonesian, Visual Art, Physical Education and Science. A strong pastoral care program is embedded within the school practice and the school has achieved much success through a Positive Behaviour Support approach to behaviour management. The school is fortunate in being able to offer the latest technology to students with interactive whiteboards installed in all teaching areas and through the innovative use of iPad's.
The location and community
South Hedland is situated in the Pilbara. This is a beautiful area, abundant with beaches and with access to numerous camping and natural tourist attractions. This is an ideal location for families, couples and singles who like to spend time in the outdoors and undertake associated outdoor activities. There are also a number of social groups in Hedland for those who aren't into the outdoors, including many community sport options available for both adults and children. Being an extremely friendly town, you are bound to make lifelong friends during your time here.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
