This is a three (3) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency.

Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre (EGESC) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Deputy Principal. We are looking to engage an experienced, innovative and motivated leader, who will work within the executive team, to ensure that the school continues to deliver excellent student outcomes.

In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the college and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness.  You will work as part of a dedicated team and have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to our college community. To be successful in this role you will be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people.

EGESC is a school for students with mild to severe intellectual disabilities. While this criterion is the primary basis for enrolment, students typically present with a broader range of disabilities including autism spectrum disorder, psychological disorders, physical disability or sensory impairment.

EGESC has firmly established itself within the Goldfields community, earning widespread acceptance and recognition through its rich history dating back to 1946. With the aim of building strong connections, EGESC seeks to engage families, the broader community, and external agencies, fostering collaborative relationships for the benefit of our students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
