Swan View Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an innovative and passionate leader to join their friendly team.

As Program Coordinator - Student Services, you should work collaboratively with the leadership team and have a focus on the development of a safe and positive learning environment that will improve student outcomes. The successful applicant should display effective leadership qualities including the capacity to strategically lead evidenced-based whole school improvement. You should also show the capacity to implement and evaluate policies, procedures, and programs relevant to the Student Services area to support the school’s whole school approach to improvement of attendance, engagement, and achievement.

The successful applicant should display a sound understanding of the case management of educationally at-risk students that includes knowledge of effective intervention, monitoring and reporting strategies. There is an associated responsibility to establish and manage administrative and operational systems to ensure the effective operation of Student Services, to support school business plan targets and in accordance with Departmental policy and guidelines.

Using effective change strategies, the successful applicant should lead the school community to better understand the tiered and inter-connected interventions, so all students receive the appropriate levels of support, developing opportunities for improved service. In this key school leadership position, ideally the successful applicant should also display strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and have an ability to build strong school and community links with parents and external agencies and to work collaboratively at Swan View Senior High School. You should be innovative and have a strong knowledge of the use of data to inform the delivery of successful wellbeing programs and case management strategies.

In addition, the Program Coordinator – Students Services supports teachers and leaders as they engage with parents/carers. This is achieved by facilitating parent/carer/teacher meetings, mentoring and case-conferencing to promote effective instruction, sound communication and positive behaviour management practices across the school. Training in Classroom management strategies, Western Australian Positive Behaviour Support and restorative practices would be seen as an advantage.

Dependent on the operational requirements of the school this role may include a teaching component.

As an Independent Public School we have the opportunity to make decisions 'for our school at our school.' Our School Board consists of school, parent, and community representatives all with the common goal of ensuring continued success and positioning Swan View SHS as the school of choice in our local area.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
