This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024

School Of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Technical Support Officer to join their team.

As Technical Support Officer you will provide first level support for SIDE Information Communications Technologies (ICT) systems and services. You will assist in testing and maintaining hardware and software applications according to SIDE’s standard operating environment and adhering to quality management procedures. The successful applicant should use their oral, written and interpersonal skills to help provide assistance to staff and students with respect to the set-up and use of hardware and software applications and devices. Ideally, you will have the ability to work as part of a team, liaise with other Department of Education personnel and to communicate with external service providers.

SIDE’s main campus is in Leederville with teaching delivery suites at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School, Northlake Senior Campus and Churchlands Specialist program. Suitable applicants may be required to work from any site as the need arises.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Experience in the support of ICT, including supporting PCs, printers, telephones, mobile devices, tablets and their associated hardware and software.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability work as part of a team in the delivery of ICT projects and provide high level of customer service.
  • Well developed conceptual and analytical skills within the information technology field, including the ability to develop innovative solutions to information technology problems.
  • Experience with an ICT support incident management, documentation and call logging system.
  • Initiative and organisational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
