Teachers and school administrators employed at Mullewa District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $17,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.  

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school. 

About the role

This role provides a unique opportunity to improve learning outcomes for Aboriginal students at Mullewa District High School (DHS). The successful applicant will work with a supportive team of colleagues and support staff. Mullewa DHS is a part of the Closing the Gap commonwealth program in partnership with MultiLit. As such you will be supported with implementing InitiaLit as a whole school intervention strategy through professional learning and resources. We are a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) school provide other Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. You will be supported to implement SEL programs that are a school wide strategy.

The Ideal Teacher

We are looking for someone who has an outstanding knowledge and skill set to work with Aboriginal students. You will ideally be willing to implement school-based initiatives such as high impact teaching and use a PBS approach.  Good knowledge of classroom management strategies is beneficial. You will be required to implement school based social emotional learning programs.

The applicant will ideally develop positive relationships with students and their families and improve classroom attendance and engagement in learning using the Western Australian curriculum. You will be required to plan, teach, and assess students’ learning with a focus on English and Mathematics. We prefer teachers willing to implement high impact teaching strategies as well as evidence based direct instruction programs. We are looking for someone who is well planned and flexible when the need arises.

There are a number of students who have low school attendance, high transiency rates, imputed disabilities, cultural obligations and some who require support to self-regulate their emotions.

Our outstanding team of teachers, Aboriginal education workers and experienced education assistants provide engaging classes and programs for our students from Kindergarten through to Year 12.

The school has a strong focus on positive behaviour supports catering for student’s wellbeing. The school is creating purposeful programs to provide clear career pathways for our secondary students.

Our positive and challenging teaching programs allow all students to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become confident independent learners. We offer specialty subjects including art, physical education, CADETS, and the Shooting Stars Netball Academy.

The Location and Community

Mullewa is located only 99 kilometres east-northeast of Geraldton. Mullewa is a diverse and resilient community, rich in both natural and cultural heritage. Mullewa has a swimming pool, Recreation Centre with a small gym, doctors’ surgery, hospital, two service stations - one with a mechanic, a food store, and three art galleries. Living within an hour’s drive to the city of Geraldton you can enjoy shopping, beaches, and other social activities. Mullewa is the gateway to the Murchison and some amazing wildflowers in the right season.
