This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024.
Bunbury Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a committed, highly effective leader to join the Executive Team in the role of Deputy Principal.
You will work closely with the principal and the executive team to provide educational leadership in the school and the community. The successful applicant should have exceptional interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, capable of building and maintaining collaborative partnerships across the school and wider community to share ownership of the school vision.
The Deputy Principal will lead and model a culture of self-reflection, growth mindset and continuous improvement. This means keeping up to date with educational research and trends, using this knowledge to drive improvement and innovation within the school. You will also provide coaching and mentoring to those you line manage as you promote professional growth and leadership capabilities in our leadership team members.
As a member of the Executive team, you will play a critical role in leading and managing the school. The successful applicant will have the ability to build productive relationships to drive strategic change and have experience in creating enabling conditions to drive improved teaching practice through data informed decision making. They will demonstrate the use of effective change management strategies to develop the Quality Teaching Strategy agenda. At Bunbury Senior High School that includes peer observations, our shared instructional framework, student voice surveys and leading the Instructional Leadership Team.
In collaboration with the principal and other members of the executive team, you will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining systems, policies, and procedures for the efficient, effective operation of the school. Specific to this position is that you have experience to ensure that the schoolwork force is well managed, fully staffed and has the professional knowledge and practice to deliver the school improvement agenda. With the other Deputy Principals, you will be responsible for the creation of a timetable strategy that reflects our historic excellent academic achievement, provides flexibility for our senior school range of courses and has a focus on student wellbeing.
We are a Gifted and Talented (GAT) school. The school’s highly successful Visual Arts Specialist Program and Bunbury Elite Sports Training Program supports a wide range of options for Bunbury SHS students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
