Appointment Pool

Standards and Integrity is seeking to establish a pool of Senior Investigators for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during 2023 and up to the end of March 2024. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2023, up to the end of March 2024.

About Us

The Standards and Integrity Directorate, within the Professional Standards and Conduct Division is responsible for the delivery of a range of integrated functions including:

  • the administration of complaints regarding alleged breaches of discipline and misconduct by staff
  • investigation of misconduct complaints and allegations against staff, including public interest disclosures, serious misconduct and breaches of discipline
  • conducting reviews of critical incidents and making recommendations for improvement
  • delivery of professional learning related to professional standards and conduct.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Senior Investigator will manage and provide advice on complaints involving misconduct, breaches of discipline and reportable conduct. The role will involve the identification of opportunities for service improvement through investigations, undertakings, recommendations, and coaching and advice to Department employees and schools. The Senior Investigator will have expertise in administrative investigations conducted in accordance with the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and Parliamentary Commissioner Act 1971 and will provide advice to key internal and external stakeholders as an investigative specialist.

Success in this role will be contingent upon your highly proficient interpersonal skills, organisation and report writing skills, ability to persuasively consult, and negotiate, as well as your ability to develop an effective team relationships, and collaborate successfully with individuals at all levels.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold a current C class drivers licence
  • travel intrastate as required
  • complete a declaration prior to employment and annually thereafter disclosing any previous disciplinary findings, criminal charges or convictions, and ongoing conflicts of interest
  • provide a statement from previous employer/s with regard to any disciplinary findings
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete
    • the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
    • training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
    • the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
    • the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
