Denmark Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School seeking to appoint a highly competent, dedicated Health and Physical Education Teacher with Outdoor Education specialist capacity to join their team in 2024.

We are seeking a highly reflective teacher who will promote an environment of active and positive learning where success is celebrated and provide educational opportunities which enable students to achieve to their very best. The successful applicant will ideally possess a capacity to deliver a curriculum which is engaging, relevant and meaningful to students. Possessing the skills to differentiate the curriculum to cater for a broad range of abilities, including special needs, is highly valued. Displayed capacity in Outdoor Education – both land and water based - and general Health and Physical Education is a requirement to best meeting the business needs of the school.

Key to this role is that the successful applicant shows genuine care; builds productive working relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; is curious about learning and about learners; and is reflective of themselves and their practice. The successful applicant will plan strategically for positive outcomes and, with high professional knowledge in instructional practice, they will aim to sustain a culture that promotes educational best practice.  They will possess excellent interpersonal, organisational and risk mitigation skills.

Denmark SHS is located in the Shire of Denmark within the Great Southern region of Western Australia and near the banks of the Denmark River. Built on its current site in 2000, the school provides a comprehensive Year 7 to Year 12 secondary school education. Local access to walking trails, beaches and waterways support the land and water based activities offered.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
