Settlers Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principal for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024.

In collaboration with the Principal and administrative team members, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. Suitable applicants will contribute to developing the School Plan through participative decision-making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems.

The ability to work in a high-paced and collegial working environment with a commitment to lead passionate administrators and teachers is highly desirable. Suitable applicants will play an integral role in the school’s improvement journey. They should commit to building exceptional student and staff satisfaction through high-quality Explicit Instruction and intentional play.

Suitable applicants should have high interpersonal skills and extensive professional knowledge with the ability to apply them to ensure a high educational outcome for all students. In some instances, this position may involve a teaching role.

Settlers PS has a strong curriculum focus based on the use of High-Impact, Low variation teaching methods and consistent, whole-school approaches to literacy and numeracy. Current experienced staff members work collaboratively to ensure that high-quality instruction is apparent in all classrooms every session. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) underpins students’ well-being and engagement philosophy, with students being explicitly taught the values and expectations of the school’s community in a proactive and strengths-based manner.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
